The past year has been one of both growth and consolidation for the committed Advocare team.
From launching new services to strengthening our internal processes and foundations, everything we do continues to reach toward our goal of supporting older West Australians to feel safe, heard and empowered.
Discover some of the key highlights from our Annual Report for 2024–25.
First full year as WA Seniors Peak Body
This was our first full year operating as the custodian of the WA Seniors Peak Body, led by new CEO Bev Jowle, to provide a collective voice for more than 428,000 older Western Australians. Following the official launch in November, we welcomed Bianca Marson Whait as the Seniors Peak Manager to drive its activities.
This work is laying strong foundations for systemic change and more coordinated, age-friendly approaches across WA.
Progress on our new Strategic Plan 2024–27
Our new Strategic Plan 2024–27 guided the year, focusing on three pillars – Reach and Impact, Culture and Safety, and Sustainable Growth.
Key achievements included:
- Extending delivery of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) and WA Elder Abuse Helpline to 2029.
- Appointing a People and Safety Officer to lead a ‘safety-first’ culture
- Expanding place-based advocacy into the Goldfields and more regional communities.
These steps are helping us reach more older people, while ensuring our staff and volunteers are supported to do their best work.
Deeper regional reach and place-based advocacy
Our regional footprint continued to grow across the Great Southern, South West, Goldfields, Mid West, Pilbara and Kimberley, as well as in the Wheatbelt, as more than 85 regional towns and small communities were visited. Team members from the care finder program and the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, along with our five place-based Outreach Advocates, are leaving a lasting mark on communities, building trust, local relationships and genuinely ‘meeting people where they are.’
