Helping future carers – WA Carers Strategy

Carer and loved one embracing

The WA State Government is developing a new Western Australia (WA) Carers Strategy – and Advocare is encouraging unpaid carers and community members to have their say.

It’s no secret that unpaid carers make an enormous contribution to the lives of family members, friends and others they support. We hear every day how caring can be rewarding, but the flipside is,  it can also be challenging and isolating, especially for older carers, carers in regional and remote areas, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers, and young carers.

This statewide survey is an important chance for carers’ voices and lived experience to directly shape the new Strategy.

By completing the survey, you’ll be helping to:

  • Build a clearer picture of caring in WA – who carers are, the types of care provided and the impact of caring.
  • Ensure carers’ voices are heard as the new Strategy is developed.
  • Guide further consultation so the Strategy responds to the diverse needs of carers across WA.

Your feedback will help inform the work of government, community organisations and service providers to better recognise, include and support unpaid carers.

How to take part

Consultation is open until 12 December 2025.

You can take part in a few ways:

By completing the survey, you consent to the Western Australian Government collecting and using your deidentified responses to inform future strategy documents, reports and planning activities. Your information will be handled in line with privacy laws and government policies. For more information, visit the wa.gov.au Privacy page.

If you’re an unpaid carer, or you support someone who is, we encourage you to take a few minutes to complete the survey and share your experience. Your voice matters.
