The last few months of the year are busy ones for Advocare’s community development and outreach teams. They continue to travel the state letting older people, their families and aged care service providers know about Advocare and why older people should be cherished and their rights respected. Find out what we’re up to.
There’s plenty of opportunities for communities to celebrate the value of older people, diversity, volunteering and ageing over the next few months. In October, the International Day of the Older Person happens on 1 October and Ageism Awareness Day (9 October).
Then there’s WA Seniors Week (9-16 November), one of our busiest weeks of the year, which is particularly important for us this time around. For the first time, Advocare co-hosts the WA Seniors Awards at Government House with the Department of Communities. We look forward to sharing a recap of the evening’s highlights with Newsbites readers in our next edition and on our socials.
And of course, we celebrate the amazing contributions of all volunteers on National Volunteers Day, 5 December. We always take the time to acknowledge those important people who are the backbone of our communities, whether it’s coaching the local footy team or visiting older people in their homes to provide a valuable friendship, as our Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme team do most days of the year.
Regularly visit our ‘What’s On’ page on our website to catch up with our team over the next few months.
