Yarning with the Interim ATSI Commissioner

Advocare team members Cynthia Dann and Garry Taylor were recently invited to attend a special meet-up with the visiting Interim First Nations Aged Care Commissioner, Andrea Kelly in Northam. The day’s goal was to discuss how working with Aboriginal people could be improved.

Held in the last week of June, this important day was held at Bilya Koort Boodja. The Commissioner was keen to hear firsthand about the challenges and opportunities for delivering culturally safe aged care from Advocare’s care finder program team members, Garry and Cynthia, who both live and work in the Wheatbelt.

By all accounts, the day was an enriching one for all involved, which also included representatives from the Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation and Ballardong Aboriginal Corporation. We look forward to sharing the outcome of these new ways of working in future Newsbite editions.
