Advocare has sent an invitation to many Perth metro and regional lifestyle village managers asking them to be part of this safety initiative to help support awareness-raising for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in June. We know strong village communities are built on trust, connection, and respect. Enhancing safety for residents in these villages is even more valuable.
This June, for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), we’re focusing on the power of knowledge. Advocare will be looking to lifestyle village communities to take up the challenge, ensuring their residents understand the signs of elder abuse, for example, perhaps a resident has become withdrawn or disengaged. How can you ask them sensitively or assist them if they disclose elder abuse? Advocare can help lifestyle communities step in early and support one another.
We’re inviting lifestyle villages to take part in our latest WEAAD initiative, with flexible options including short information sessions or pop-up resource displays to raise awareness. As a thank you, participating villages will go into the draw to win a Mindfulness Matters Kit for their community space.
If your lifestyle village hasn’t received its letter invitation by the end of April and would like to get involved, email us at events@advocare.org.au. Together, we can build safer, more connected communities where everyone feels respected and supported.
