Advocare was honoured to present the ‘Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award’ at Volunteering WA’s special annual awards ceremony in May. We take a moment to highlight the wonderful achievements of award winner, the late Lin Doust.
The late Lin Doust dedicated more than 70 years of voluntary service to the Y (formerly known as the YMCA), beginning as a 10-year-old member in 1940 and never accepting a paid role. Over his lifetime, he served as a teacher, board member, and devoted historian, preserving the YMCA’s story. He established the YMCA WA Museum, safeguarding more than a century of history and sharing it with institutions such as the State Library of Western Australia and the Australian War Memorial.
Lin’s passion for volunteering extended beyond the Y, including significant contributions to his Fremantle community and the National War Memorial. His strong values of honesty, respect, and care for others were constant drivers, guiding his life and service.
There’s no doubt, Lin’s legacy of generosity and community spirit will continue to inspire future generations. Advocare would like to thank his son, Stan and daughter, Carolyn for attending the Awards night to humbly accept the award in his name.
